Yes, I could not resist writing about her. Sharing top spot
with Alicia Keys as my favourite artist ever, Beyoncé is one hot topic I could
not resist writing about, especially with the release of her new single “Bow Down”and the controversy it has sparked amongst fans and other listeners.
Extracted from the song:
“I know when you were little girls you dreamt of being in my
world. Don’t forget it. Respect that. Bow down bitches”
Wow. Where do we start? Personally, I take no offence. One,
it’s not necessarily a statement aimed directly at listeners. Two, there are so
many other songs out there that are far more abrasive. Three, men sing/rap
lyrics similarly, if not worse, all the time and it’s completely acceptable.
Four, I have a feeling that could be exactly what Beyoncé is trying to make a
point off.
An interesting clip to watch… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s9NrOlzfK0U
Ultimately, the fact that the song has created controversy
has given it a lot of exposure. The song has received almost 3 million hits on
Youtube.
Tasha Gordon-Solmon posted some interesting varying
interpretations of the lyrics… http://www.huffingtonpost.com/tasha-gordonsolmon/beyonce-bow-down-meaning_b_2933748.html
Lyrics aside, I like the music and the amount of detail in
the image created with the song I think is amazing. All the costumes, the props,
not to mention the cinematography is really compelling. Watching and listening,
my mind kind of gets lost. For the entire length of the song I’m in my own
little world of amazement and wonder, asking all sorts of questions. None of my
questions pertaining to the lyrics. After all, Beyoncé also sings “it’s hard
loving…loving a woman like me.”
I’m interested to know what y'all think. Hit
